Prologue : FYI This is not a Teenage Love Story

Scientists believe certain random interactions can trigger a predictable set of events, like how a single flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil can trigger a tornado in Texas - otherwise known as the butterfly effect.  Perhaps it could just be that we are merely scattered pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, and a collection of coincidences make us fall into the right place at the right time.

It may sound like a lot of hogwash but there is indeed a certain karmic method to all that madness out there. The fatalist may call it God's designs; the atheist gives it a scientific name but the fact of the matter remains that most of us cannot even begin to fathom the strange dynamics of the universe that invisibly control our lives. Maybe possessing all that awareness is a boon, on the other hand, life appears less boring by its seeming unpredictability.

As far as my story goes it all begins with an inconsequential yellow skirt, or one would actually believe so. However, events preceding and following the timeline of the skirt fiasco, be it of infinitesimal or mammoth proportions leads to the entire premise of my story.

Let's see how and where the butterfly takes us..back and forth…..

Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT A TEENAGE LOVE STORY (Let not the first chapter fool you)

Episode 1 - THE SKIRT FIASCO

Time 4.20 PM Aaaargh…..My skirt looked nothing short of ridiculous. There was no way in hell I was going to Lena’s birthday party wearing that piece of an eyesore. I should have known better than to let Amma go shopping for me. It was bad enough that I had the nerd tag, and now when I had finally succeeded in getting myself invited to a party, I was going to stick out like a sore thumb thanks to this fashion faux pas. And This was Not going to be just any party . Yep, it wasn’t every day one got to attend a party thrown by the likes of Lena. Who was Lena, you ask? Lena was the heartthrob of Emperor School – it was as clichéd as it could get, she was the whole package, intelligent, hot, and filthy rich. Guys clambered after her like bees to a honeypot. She, however, seemed to act aloof and maybe even completely oblivious to all that attention coming her way. Lena, of course, had her own little coterie of girls like her, typically from a super-upper-class family, whose dads made more mon...

Episode 4: SHOW ME THE MONEY

Rewind: Same day, 8:00 AM Brijraj Patel was a stickler for routines, especially the one related to his money - counting his money before he went to bed and the first thing in the morning.  His wife called him a miser, as did his children. He had assets above 200 crores, yet he hated what  he termed as  "unnecessary" expenditure of any kind. In fact he had several sleepless nights after his son requested for a BMW for his 16th birthday and went on a hunger strike until he caved.  Kids today were such spendthrifts, thought Brijraj. To this day, he kept his father’ safe with him, perpetually stocked with ten to twenty lakhs since he believed the safe brought him luck.  He also had his special secret storage unit under his bed where he kept close to 5 crores, a small part of his unaccounted money. Unlike other parents he did not have huge aspirations for his children's individual success, he had it all planned, his daughter he would marry off to a rich ...

Episode 2: PUSHPAK VIMAAN

Rewind…Time: Same day, 12 PM "Hello, Ma" called out Pushpak, as he entered his humble home in Chintar village. "Arey Beta (son), I did not notice you come in" His mother was pleasantly surprised to see Pushpak. She had been washing utensils in the kitchen and had just sat herself down to watch a movie. She wiped her wet hands on her saari and came forward and hugged her son.   "Did you get time out from practice?" asked Ma   "Yes"   "Did you see the hoardings in the        village? You are everywhere", said Ma, her eyes welling up with tears of pride. Yes, he had seen them, it was all too surreal and it had all been such a meteoric rise for him. His life had changed overnight. Two years ago, Pushpak wouldn't have imagined playing in any format of cricket let alone a 20/20 PPL team. He had of course to thank Nishi for a large part of it. Nishi was his junior, who had come li...
